Labor Day parade

DANVILLE — Labor Day has been around since Sept. 5, 1882. We celebrate Labor Day to remember the workers who died at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. marshals during the Pullman strike.

It’s also a day that hard-working citizens of the United States and Canada get off for all social and economic achievements.

People gather in their towns and celebrate at a local parade to traditionally collect on a main street and acknowledge the workers of the town; such as the law enforcement, local businesses and public safety departments.

During the parade candy is thrown to the community on the side of the street as they pass. A lot of people like to sit, watch and enjoy the parade that is put on for the community.

Lindsey Kissack, 19-year-old college student, says “I enjoy coming back to the community and showing my gratitude for those who work hard.”
