Renaissance Festival offered look into the past

DANVILLE — In mid-16th century town of Lancaster, England, village folk reside with wisdom. King Henry VIII renewed his wedding vows with Lady Jane Seymour for the Renaissance Festival.

This was the scene at Ellsworth Park, Aug. 27-28.

They had knights, horse riding, costumes, singing, buggy rides and Dragon ice cream. Also there were honey wines to test from Wildwood Cellars.

A merchant of wood burned arts, handmade furniture, oils, incense and the “jumping the broom” gave interesting facts as follows. The gypsies originated in Romania, and later when cast out their country moved to the Middle East. To raise money, they did various dances and sold items they made, such as rugs. This is their way of living, selling, handmade goods like glass, clothes, mugs and beaded jewels.

Also the merchant stated this festival has been taking place since 1991.

Six months a year the Renaissance Festival travels across the world, selling handmade items to support their family.

Next time don’t miss out on this interesting event.
