DANVILLE — Many people always say they can’t wait until their old enough to get a job so they can have their own money and feel independent.

Dylan Nelson, a sophomore at Danville High School, has been working for over a year now. He says, “The job process itself was pretty easy for me. I went through the WECEP program, so I didn’t have to fill out an application because it’s not a worldwide business.”

WECEP, or The Work Experience and Career Exploration Program, is a program that provides intervention strategies for academically at-risk students.

The program helps to guide the students toward a career plan.

Nelson says the program really helped him get a starter job.

“Without the program, I wouldn’t have been as prepared for the interview or job expectations.”

However, for some teens, like junior Bryant McGraw, jobs are hard to come by.

“I want a job to feel independent; to have my own money and to just basically keep myself busy and out of trouble.”
