HOOPESTON —
Hoopeston Area School District will host an open house in the new district office building behind the high school 4-6 p.m. Jan. 30.
The open house will show off the new building and help residents and parents become acquainted with the new district office. The superintendent’s office moved in on Jan. 7.
In other school board business Thursday:
Board members learned that Ideal Environmental Engineering Inc. did an asbestos inspection in the Hoopeston School District. Following the announcement in the newspaper, bids will be open Feb. 1 to find the cost to solve the problem on the underground pipes at Maple Grade School. More information will be available at February’s school board meeting.
Learned that all incumbents have filed for the April school board elections.
Learned that at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Abe Lincoln will visit the John Greer Elementary School’s sixth-grade students as part of the sixth-grade reading unit. The focus will be on understanding primary and secondary sources.
Learned the Annual Sweetheart Dinner by the high school student council will be Feb. 14.
Learned the Hoopeston School District is hosting a Parents Involved for Excellence (PIE) for a families with students in K -12 at the Hoopeston Middle School, on March 7. A free meal will be served at 5 p.m., then sessions covering several topics will begin at 5:30 and run until 8 p.m. Child care will be offered for smaller children, a homework room and activities in the middle school gym for older children. Prizes and giveaways and community resource information will be available.

Hoopeston Area school board members will meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21. The location will be announced later.
