HOOPESTON —
Hoopeston Area High School homecoming will host a special guest between the girls and boys basketball games tonight.
Chief Illiniwek will perform in the middle school gym, then make a brief appearance with Hoopeston’s Jerky in the the high school gym for photos.
"We hope to see our Hoopeston Area fans at the games to support our student athletes, cheerleaders, coaches and school during this special homecoming celebration," said high school principal Larry Maynard.
The special appearance of Chief Illiniwek will end Hoopeston’s Homecoming Week on Cornjerker Pride Day.
Coronation of the king and queen and judging of homecoming floats will take place during the boys’ halftime game. Candidates for homecoming king are Zach Lewallen, Joe Warner, Ray Tyszko and Conner Cline. Homecoming queen candidates are Ally Verley, Emily Margevich, Devin McFadden and Marita Ibishi.
Freshman class attendants are Ian Simpson and Nora Fourez; sophomore attendants, Keaton Longest and Cayley Martin; and junior attendants, Alex Pickett and Carissa Vaughn.
Following the games with Salt Fork Storm, the homecoming dance will begin at 8 p.m. and end at 11 p.m.
Homecoming was moved from the traditional varsity football season this year to the basketball season due to the cancellation of the varsity football season.
