Hoopeston theater group to perform in Watseka

HOOPESTON — The Artistic Repertory Theatre will its “Little Shop of Horrors” musical on the road to The Watseka Theatre.

The encore performance will take place as a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday.

“The ART is thrilled to be performing at The Watseka Theatre,” said Carol Kloska, ART Theatre publicity director. “(It’s) a state of the art theatre that has been providing first class live entertainment to our area.”

Previously performed at the Hoopeston High School auditorium earlier this month, the musical features an overbearing man-eating plant who talks a nerdy floral shop worker into killing people to feed him. The plant grows huge and brings fame and wealth to the flower shop.

A spaghetti dinner will be served at noon for $5. Children under 12 eat free. Dinner and theater tickets are $15.

The Watseka Theatre is a restored 1931 art deco theatre, designed by Louis Skidmore, and is believed to be the only theatre Skidmore designed. The more famous buildings designed by him are the Chicago Sear’s Tower, the John Hancock Center and the New York United Nations Building. Skidmore also was the chief architect for the 1933 Century of Progress Chicago World’s Fair.

The Watseka Theatre was given a new look in 2007 and features a gourmet restaurant and full bar. Entertainment covers the entertainment genre featuring concerts, live music and professional dance troupes, dinner theatre, local talent shows, and private events such as weddings or special holiday productions.

For a dinner and theater tickets to see “Little Shop of Horrors,” or just the performance, contact The Watseka Theatre at (815) 993-6585 or order tickets through the website at watsekatheatre.com.
