Help the schools

GEORGETOWN — Editor:

Years ago when the Illinois lottery was started, it was for senior citizens and schools. Lawmakers dropped senior citizens and was just for schools.

Question: Why are our schools in such bad shape? If the lottery is still for schools, where is the money? I understand it was just a certain percentage.

On discipline, I still go with the old saying, “spare the rod, spoil the child.” When I was growing up, if I got spanked in school, I got spanked at home, also.

I know that discipline begins at home, but when kids know the abuse hotline, they say they will call. The wife and I raised seven children, four boys and three girls. I think they all turned out OK, and they got their share of spankings.

So I think our lawmakers should rewrite the abuse law and give parents and teachers back some authority.
