William Engle, in his letter to the editor of Dec. 16, states in effect that the members of our society who are least able to sustain themselves are rewarded through taxation with the confiscated wealth of the rich.
The fact of the matter is that many of the rich pay few taxes.
Mitt Romney says that he paid at 15 percent for 2011. Warren Buffett says that he paid at a lower rate than his secretary. General Electric had no tax liability and received a large refund.
The fact truly is that legal loopholes and deductions benefit the rich a lot more than they do the middle class.
“Confiscated wealth” is an illusion of those who don’t understand our tax system.
