Hearts and darts

DANVILLE — Here are some of the good things readers noticed around the area recently:

Robert Bonnewell and the Bonnewell family of Danville sends hearts to “The Waters of Covington nursing home in Covington, Ind., for taking such good care of our mother.”

Mildred Bowers of Oakwood sends hearts “to the community of Oakwood and other agencies for their generosity and loving hearts for all my Christmas baskets and kindness shown to me.

“What a wonderful community: the neighbors, Oakwood Christian Church, Little Lamb Daycare Center, Faith in Action South and Oakwood food bank.

“God bless each and every one of you. I will never forget it. Have a wonderful 2013!”

Connie Spicer and Kelley Gettleman co-chairman, of the Outreach Committee at Bismarck United Methodist Church and Outreach Committee members send hearts “to the entire Bismarck community. You made it possible to help 20 families for Thanksgiving and 34 families for Christmas, having 88 children in our school district. It is wonderful having churches, schools, organizations and individuals working together so these families could have a great Thanksgiving and Christmas.

“The student council from Bismarck-Henning High School had a food drive. The junior high brought food to a school sponsored dance and also a basketball game. The elementary school also had a food drive.

“This year the teachers involved the children helping with the gifts and wrapping for 12 students.

“Bismarck First Church of Christ helped with donations of money, laundry supplies, paper supplies, hygiene products, flour, sugar, etc. Quaker Oats gave us granola bars, which are a healthy snack or a quick breakfast for the children.

“The Woman’s Club of Bismarck, the Men’s Club, Walnut Corner Church of Christ, the Keen-alters, Home Community Education Association (Bismarck Unit) Lucky Clovers 4-H, Anonymous givers and several individuals donated food, money or coats for the children. Members of the Bismarck United Methodist Church gave money plus toys and clothes for 45 children.

“With the donated money presents of coats, shoes, boots, clothes, toys, and perishable food are donated to each child in the families, also socks for each parent or guardian. Besides giving each family the food to cook for the holiday, they received enough food for a week or so.

“Members of Bismarck United Methodist Church and First Church of Christ organized, shopped, wrapped gifts and helped each family get their gifts and food in their cars.

“Thanks and hearts to everyone in Bismarck who helped in any way to make the holidays better for the 54 families. Bismarck is a caring community that always comes together in time of need.”
