Limit assault weapons

DANVILLE — Editor:

Regarding gun control. I have a Firearm Owner’s Identification card and a gun. At the time I purchased it, I was living by myself in a rural area. I acquired it for my protection.

My interpretation of the 2nd Amendment is just that — for protection from harm from others.

I agree with that, and my gun will probably do that.

The founding fathers, who wrote the Declaration of Independence, could not fathom the kinds of guns available today —guns that are used to mow down innocent children, and others, in a matter of minutes. Innocent people, who are not a threat to anyone.

Assault rifles, and the magazines that do that kind of harm, need to be outlawed.

And anyone caught with them should suffer dire consequences.

Write, or e-mail, your congressmen to act now. Innocent people are dying every day.

Something has to be done.
