Hearts and darts

DANVILLE — Here are some of the good things readers noticed around the area recently:

Charles and Boots Bell of Danville send hearts to the “Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System in Danville and the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Indianapolis.

“I (Charles) recently had an aneurism in my aorta. The VA in Danville found it. I got really good care and attention. They were great.

“The doctor that took care of me was Dr. Delgado. After they found the aneurism, arrangements were made for a CT scan. In fact, the aneurism had grown. The Danville VA then made arrangements for my surgery (Nov. 9) at the VA in Indianapolis, which even included facilities for my wife for the first night.

“The first night involved pre-operative procedures. We mentioned to the surgeon the lack of facilities for the second night’s surgery.

“The day of surgery, the surgeon went out of his way, at least three times, to check that the facilities were suitable for my wife and family. They wouldn’t release me without a driver, so arrangements were made for my daughter and her family to stay there as well. They were really nice quarters.

“Also, all of the hospital staff were great. When we didn’t know which way to go in the hospital, people would stop us and ask if we needed help. Staff members would then take us to the right location and go on about their business.

“The help and the people there were just stupendous. They were great — the doctors and nurses did everything they could to help.

“We thank those people. We also made sure to thank them then, and they were very appreciative of our thanks.”

Shirley Butcher of Danville sends hearts to “Naomi Hills. She is a country and western star who played at Sunday Morning in Ryman Auditorium. She came to Danville Care Center to entertain. A good time was had by all.

“You just don’t understand how much it means to have someone like that to make us happy.

“Also, Wanda and Kristy served us cheese balls, buffalo wings, crackers and cake, just like downtown. God bless you all.”
