DANVILLE — Here are some of the good things readers noticed around the area recently:

Jack Grubb of Covington, Ind., sends hearts “to all my family and friends who gave or sent cards and gifts and made my recent 80th birthday a very special day by attending my open house.

“God bless you all.”

Wanda Nafziger of Catlin, sends hearts “to the nursing staff of my Room 4463 when I was recently a patient. I cannot single out one person in the area to give special recognition to because they were all excellent in giving me the care l needed at the time.

“I had not been an in-patient to a hospital since 1997, and not a patient of Provena United Samaritans Medical Center since 1978. What a wonderful surprise to note the medical technology that is being used today. I was really impressed with the diet department and its efficiency. I thought I was staying in a five-star hotel.

“I would like to say thanks to Mary Pate Crawford for the story she shared with me about my daughter. My daughter is Dr. Penny McConnell, dean of liberal arts of Danville Area Community College. Mary gave her credit for helping her to become a nurse because of some difficulty she was having with a type of theft identity. Penny was able to get the problem taken care of so she could enter nurses training on schedule.

“This story that Mary shared with me brought tears to a mother’s eyes. Thanks, Mary, for letting me know what an amazing daughter I have.”

Evelyn Simpkins, of Tilton, sends hearts “to the Tilton village officials for the Senior Christmas Party given us. There are too many people to thank for their part. There were many young people who wanted to help us. They kept cups filled and tables cleared as we used them.

“Our mayor was even seen in the kitchen washing the trays.

“There were gifts given to everyone, the food was great, and Santa even made an appearance. The weatherman even cooperated. Thank you so much.”

Pam Hamblin of Danville sends hearts “to Dorothy, one of the third- shift cashiers at Walmart, for her courteous and efficient manner in handling her customers’ needs. She is one of the best workers at Walmart, and a very thoughtful person.

“Before Christmas she gave me a card and gift, even though she did not know my name and referred to me as the “dog and cat lady” because of my frequent purchases of animal supplies for God’s often forgotten. The card had a picture of a dog and the gift sack had various items with animal themes. How nice of her to do such a thing and, from what I have found out, she does it for many others.

“What a special lady, and Walmart should be very appreciative of her and her work ethic.”
