Sad to see synagogue close

DANVILLE — Editor:

On Oct. 6, I read an article in the Commercial-News that sadden my heart. It read the Jewish community was closing its synagogue.

Neal Ehrlich, a long-time leader of the congregation, said it was a tough decision, given the congregation’s 96-year history in the city.

It would’ve been a blessing if all the churches throughout the Danville area could’ve rallied together to help keep the synagogue from closing.

Even though there’s different denominations of religion in our town, we all have one thing in common. We all serve and love the same God.

I’ve know Mr. Ehrlich through his business. My son went to school with his daughter throughout their school years in Danville. I worked for both Gary Coopersmith and Lou Mervis. Both are fine men.

In our Danville history, Jewish businesses made and still make a strong impact in our city. Even though they will move in one of Mr. Mervis’ facilities, let’s keep them in prayer.
