Veterans say thanks for help

Editor:

Illiana Vet To Vet would like to say thank you for all of those who participated in donating to Operation HAVEN — Helping Area Veterans Essential Needs.

Everything that was donated was in great condition and many brought new items. A couple of the veterans who are now housed under the VA’s HUD VASH program received items that furnished their homes quite comfortably. They were truly amazed when we pulled up to their newly acquired housing and unloaded furniture and other items they desperately needed.

Many of the items were donated by veterans or those who were family members of current military or older veterans. It is great to see the support for these veterans as they begin their transition back into the “civilian” world after trying to deal with their mental health and substance abuse issues after serving their country.

We have a storage unit with more items that were donated but still have a need for many other items. We will have another phase of Operation HAVEN on Feb. 20 and 21 to help many more veterans.

For more information, contact me at (217) 280-7275.

Thank you Vermilion County. You have really been a great support. Support that has brought tears to those who thought hope was lost and they had nothing after giving so much.
