Editor:
The Danville City Council’s most recent overturn of a zoning commission recommendation regarding a tutoring business is yet another in sad and long line of uninformed decisions.
Our council borders on dysfunctional when it “makes accusations” that residents’ opposition was not considered when the council set forth by its own vote the procedure for accepting petitions.
Could any but a few aldermen look a constituent in the face and pledge that he or she has even read the zoning ordinance and land use plan?
We have far too many alderpersons who are elected because no one else wants to run or they are appointed by the mayor when resignations occur.
Until retired judges, lawyers, successful business executives from major corporations, doctors or dentists consent to run for city council instead of the Danville Area Community College board or District 118, this serious leadership vacuum will continue.
We need a seven-person council and perhaps a change of form of government.
