Here are some of the good things readers noticed around the area recently:
Gary and Lucille Vollmer and Gary and Cathy Cooper of Covington, Ind., sends hearts for a local event. “All of us who showed our vehicles, cars, trucks and motorcycles, would like to thank radio station Kiss Country, WKZS 103.1, for sponsoring another successful car show.
“Rusty Wallace showed his red pick up truck. John Cotton had his 1966 Chevy, which he had purchased new. Tommy Phillips of Danville showed his Gadspy. I would like to have a dollar for every car show he has entered this in. Robert Olmstead operated a Gulf station in Sterling and he bought a new Edsel in the late 1950s and it was a nice looking car.
“Keith and Margaret Brown of Catlin showed their Cadillac. Margaret, Gary,. Gary and Cathy Cooper showed their 1924 four-door Model T Ford. This Ford was well known for its aluminum body. The Coopers took our 1926 Ford Model T and showed it, also.
“Thanks again for a well-sponsored show plus dash plaques, gifts and trophies.”
Angela Brown of Danville sends hearts “to the Vermilion County Handicapped Association. They generously give up their free time to build ramps and do whatever else is necessary to make life easier for the handicapped.
“My husband received a ramp recently through the program. Before someone would have to be there to help him in and out of the house with his wheelchair, not leaving him very much freedom at all.
“Now with the ramp, he is able to come and go as he pleases with more freedom as before and he couldn’t be more happier.
“The crew was extremely kind, friendly and seemed to get great joy out of helping make life easier for my husband. I would again like to thank them with all my heart.”
Members of Danville’s Meadowlawn Area Neighborhood Association send hearts “to our local businesses and individuals who so generously donated their time, products and services for our Neighborhood Halloween Party on Oct. 24.
“Thanks to everyone’s contributions, this year’s event was a huge success, enjoyed by the children and adults alike.
“Hearts to Fazoli’s, Wiener Works, Pizza Hut, Red Lobster, Lee’s Famous Recipe, Jocko’s Pizza, Montana Mike’s, Henks Bait & Bites, Varsity Room, Amy Luke, Royal Donut, Turtle Run Swimming, Turtle Run Golf, Danville YMCA, Wendy’s Old Fashion Hamburger and Family Video.
“Also hearts and sincere thanks to our dedicated association members who spent many hours in the preparation of the event, to the association members who volunteered their time and effort at the party and to the many members who donated candy and deserts for the children and the party.
“Thanks again to all.”
Joan Kondracki of Georgetown sends hearts to the Vermilion County Handicapped Association. “Recently I had a group of people in my front yard — at least 20 men and women. They were from the Vermilion County Handicapped Association. They came to put in a wheelchair ramp for me, a stranger — and for free.
“They were a great group, laughing and joking and they worked like ants. Everyone knew what to do and did it. I heard no profanity, which is unusual in a large group like that.
“They did a beautiful job. I recommend them to anyone who is in need of their services.
“I thank them all for their hard work and their concern.”
Teresa Pollock and Ruth Randle of Danville send hearts “to the following for all the donations and money given for the Trish (Caudill) Carrigan benefit.
“Special hearts go to Jim & Jo’s Bar and Grill for helping us get this started and to Jeff and Pam Messmore of Lucky n Love for doing karaoke most of the night for free.
“Hearts to those who donated to the silent auction. It was great. The 50/50 drawing was won, and given back, by Nancy (Harmeson) Norton, whose husband also is ill. Hearts to the businesses that allowed us to put cans out.
“Hearts to County Market, Moon Glo, Papa Johns, Advance Auto Parts, Steak ’n’ Shake, Big R, Sears Portraits, Buffalo Wild Wings, Royal Donut, Watson Tire, Papa Murphy’s, Sunburst Tanning, Huff Photo, McDonald’s, Larry Paul, Little Nuggett, Great Wall and Five Star.
“Also, hearts to Montana Mike’s, Red Lobster, Fazoli’s, Penn Station, Taco Bell, Long John Silver’s, Subway, Family Video, Weiner Works, Lee’s Famous Recipe, Monical’s Pizza, Comfort Inn, Illini Skateland, Midas, Lincoln Lanes, The Beef House, and Holiday Inn.
“Hearts to the Vermilion County Handicapped Association and to anyone we might have missed. Everyone who donated or contributed is greatly appreciated.”
