Editor:
With the DHS Vikings having such a great season this year, it means a lot more to Danville than just winning football.
Considering all of the
industry that has left Danville over the years, there hasn’t been a lot to cheer for in Danville for a while. This is unfortunate, because the people of Danville are the salt of the earth and among the kindest and most down-to-earth people anywhere.
Every town has its share of “lowlife,” but for the most part, the residents of Danville are decent people. Except for the flat land,
no major water, no serious shopping, no fancy restaurants and not much nightlife, Danville is a great place to live.
Since we have advanced almost as far in the playoffs as we did in 1976, Danville truly has something very tangible to cheer about. I hope it revitalizes past and present citizens of Danville to realize the true greatness of our hometown.
Any town can have nightlife, pro sports teams, mountains, lots of restaurants, oceans or rivers, but not just any town can be full of wonderful, heroic, champions as citizens. Not by the world’s standards, but by the standards that matter most for eternity, Danville is greater than most communities in this country and maybe the world.
The reasons for its greatness are its citizens, both past and present.
Be thankful if you are included in this group of people. May God bless you and GO VIKINGS!
