DANVILLE — Danville police arrested a 34-year-old man on charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said in a press release that police detectives were called to the Danville Christian Academy, 428 N Walnut St., about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in response to allegations of abuse involving a staff member and a 17-year-old student.
The subsequent investigation revealed inappropriate contact by the associate pastor with the male student, which reportedly had gone on for some time, according to police.
Thomason said Mark List was arrested by detectives at his home in the 700 block of Perrysville Road about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and was placed in the custody of the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department pending formal charges by the Vermilion County State’s Attorney.
The school board suspended List on Wednesday night pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Vermilion County State’s Attorney Office filed charges Thursday of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, criminal sexual assault — position of trust and indecent solicitation of a child against List with bond set by the courts at $20,000.
Thomason referred any further comments regarding the case to the Vermilion County State’s Attorney.
