VFW hosts dinner, dance

DANVILLE — The Veterans of Foreign Wars Jewell Whyte Post 728 will host a Friday night dance and steak fry Friday. Meal will be served from 5:30-7 p.m. The dance will feature Battle Creek band, which will play from 7-10 p.m.

Menu includes: rib eye steak grilled to order, baked potato, salad and desserts.

Dinner-only price: $10. Dance: $6. Dinner and dance: $15.

Run/walk set for Saturday

Middlefork School will host a 5K Fun Run/Walk Saturday at Horseshoe Pond in Kennekuk Park. Registration/check-in begins at 8:15 a.m. with the event beginning at 9. No pets will be allowed.

Pre-registration forms are available at https://sites.google.com/a/vase.k12.il.us/home/home/playground-funding. Interested individuals may also call the school office at 443-8273, extension 2200.

Adult registration fee: $10 before or $15 at the event, which includes a T-shirt. Students younger than 16 may participate with an adult for free but will only receive a T-shirt if they pay the registration fee.

All proceeds from the event go toward the purchase of equipment for a new playground at Middlefork School.

Dogs, cats to be at mall

Vermilion County Animal Shelter Foundation will be at the Village Mall from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and April 28 with adoptable dogs and cats. Nail trims will be offered for $5.

Enter through the back door, which is behind the mall and north of the theater entrance.

Group plans country show

Music in the Heartland will sponsor its Country Reunion Show at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at the Riggle Banquet Center, 400 Lyons Road.

There will be a snack bar with food and refreshments. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given.

The Fountain-Warren Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. EDT Thursday at the Beef House.

Indiana Retired Teacher Association president Robert Kraft will be a speaker.

GEORGETOWN

Center to serve breakfast

The Georgetown Lions and Russell Masonic Lodge will host a breakfast from 7-10 a.m. Saturday at the Georgetown First Church of Christ (Annex) Ministry Center.

Menu includes: pancakes, sausage, eggs, biscuits and sausage gravy.

The donations received at the breakfast will benefit the local Georgetown food pantry.

HOOPESTON

Program explores Titanic

“The Iceberg Version” will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday in the lower level meeting room of the Hoopeston Public Library, 110 N. Fourth St.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, the library is presenting this original Reader’s Theatre production.

There is no admission charge, but tickets are required. Tickets can be picked up at the library’s main desk.

Club plans free screening

The Hoopeston Lions Club will sponsor a free diabetic retinopathy screening for persons with diabetes or those at risk for diabetes from 1-3 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of Jerry’s IGA.

KINGMAN, IND.

Sons sponsor ham dinner

The Sons of the Kingman American Legion Post 384 will sponsor a baked ham dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT Sunday, April 15, at the post.

Menu includes: scalloped potatoes, green beans, applesauce, salad, bread, dessert, coffee or iced tea. Pop is 50 cents.

Price: $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. The bar will be open.

RIDGE FARM

Club sponsors variety show

The Ridge Farm Elementary drama club will sponsor a variety show at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the school. Price: $1 for students, $1.25 for adults.

VEEDERSBURG, IND.

Watercolor art class set

Pat Fay, well-known water color artist from Crawfordsville, will offer a watercolor class from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. EDT Saturday at the d’Arlier Cultural Center, 405 N. Mill St.

Students will learn watercolor techniques and leave with a matted painting suitable for framing. The fee is $35 for the day and includes all materials. Class size is limited.

Society hosts meeting

The Fountain County Genealogy Society Inc. will have its regular business meeting at 6:15 p.m. EDT Thursday, April 12, at the d’Arlier Cultural Center, 405 N. Mill St.

Officers and members should plan to attend. Non-members are also welcome. The research library will be open after the meeting.

Station sponsors fish fry

The Veedersburg Fire Station will have its Jonah Fish Fry from 4-8 p.m. EDT Saturday, April 14, at the station, 100 S. Main.

Menu includes: all-you-can-eat fish and choice of two sides. Deliveries are available from 4-7:30 p.m. Call 294-4410.

WILLIAMSPORT, IND.

Quilting class offered

The Warren County Learning Center is offering the class, “Quilting Millennium Star.” Students can attend the class from 10 a.m. to noon or from 6-8 p.m. EDT Thursdays, April 12-26. Price: $25.

Students get to pick their own colors for this wall hanging or centerpiece for their table. Paper piecing will allow attendees to create their own beautiful design.
