DANVILLE — The HALO Project’s Women Aware Committee and County Market will offer the “Fast & Easy Healthy Food Kiosk” at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Village Mall County Market.

The free event features food tasting and demonstrations, store tours and prize giveaways. Participants should meet in the County Market Café near the front of the store. Seating is limited. No registration is required.

DDI accepts toys for drive

Downtown Danville Inc., 149 N. Vermilion St., is accepting toys for the Young Professionals Network’s Toys for Tots drive.

People can drop off toys by Tuesday. Those who cannot make it during regular business hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday can have DDI pick up the toys. Call 443-3886.

Chocolate fundraiser set

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Vermilion County hosts its second “Big Chocolate Obsession” at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Cook’s Workshop, 38 N. Vermilion St.

The event kicks off Bowl For Kids’ Sake 2013 with an evening of chocolate delights and food provided by area restaurants and bakers. Bowl for Kids’ Sake is the group’s only major fundraiser of the year.

A $5 donation at the door is encouraged. There will be a drawing for a flat screen TV. Drawing tickets are $5. Purchasers need not be present to win. For details, call 446-6601.

Workshop scheduled

The Danville Human Relations Commission will sponsor a landlord/tenant workshop from 6-7:30 p.m. today in the City Hall council chambers, 17 W. Main St.

Christmas home tour nears

The Danville Area Tour of Homes, Chittick Family Eye Care and Illini ATV World will present their annual holiday Christmas Tour from 2-6 p.m. Dec. 9.

Masons to present play

The Danville Masonic Lodge will present the fifth annual Christmas play, “Grandpa Hangs the Holly,” at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Masonic Center, 109 W. North St.

Décor contest planned

The Covington Coffeenian Organization will sponsor its 26th annual holiday decorating contest. Residents are encouraged to decorate the exterior of their homes to support community spirit and a holiday tradition.

Homes within the Covington city limits will be automatically considered. Homes outside city limits, within a two-mile radius, will need to pre-register by calling (765) 793-4401 to be considered.

Judging will take place Dec. 9 through Dec. 12. Winners will be announced the week of Dec. 16, and awards will be presented.

Pick a tag, help a child

Grant Township’s Miracle Tree program needs help. Many of the 133 names for the trees at Global Fashions and Shopko remain on the trees. Residents are asked to help by selecting a tag, which includes information on a needy child, purchasing gifts and returning them to the store where the tag was selected. Gifts are due by Dec. 7.

Seeger Junior/Senior High FFA will host its annual holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Warren Central Elementary School gymnasium. Different vendors will sell their products. The Seeger FFA chapter will also sell popcorn and drinks during the event.

Dinner for senior citizens

The Rossville-Alvin Honor Society will host its 25th annual senior citizens’ dinner Dec. 14 at the Rossville-Alvin High School gym. Seating opens at 10:45 a.m. Welcome starts at 11:30 a.m., with serving immediately following.

All senior citizens in the Rossville-Alvin school district are invited. A full holiday meal will be served. Rossville-Alvin students will provide the entertainment.
