Schlarman to induct Hall of Fame members

DANVILLE — Schlarman Academy will induct new members into the Schlarman Hall of Fame and the Athletic Wall of Fame on Friday during the Hilltoppers’ boys’ basketball game against Bismarck-Henning.

The three new inductees to the Athletic Wall of Fame will be Richard Hendricks, Class of 1952, and the 1980 and 1981 state football championship teams.

Hendricks received the 1949 Elks achievement award for outstanding student athlete, and an All Vermilion County First Team award in football and an all-state special mention in football, both in 1951.

Schlarman’s 1980 football team was the Wauseca Conference champions with a 7-0 record as well as the Class 2A state champions and earned The Associated Press 2A first place team ranking. The team’s season record was 13-0.

The school’s 1981 football team was the Wauseca Conference champions with a 7-0 record as well as the Class 2A state champions and earned the AP and United Press International 2A first place team ranking. The team’s season record was 12-1.

The three new members of the Hall of Fame will be Raymond Broderick, Class of 1966; Suzette Pickard Kittell, Class of 1990; and honorary inductee Coach Greg Colby.

Broderick was principal of Schlarman from 2003-2007 and has worked in education his entire career. He is a member of the Schlarman Academy Board of Trustees and co-chaired the Our Faith, Our Children, Our Future campaign last year.

Kittell also served as co-chair of the Our Faith, Our Children, Our Future campaign and has volunteered for many years at St. Paul’s School (now Schlarman Academy South Campus). She was co-captain of the of the state-champion Toppettes cheerleading squad while at SHS.

Greg Colby grew up in Danville and attended East Park Junior High and Danville High School. He coached at SHS from 1979-1982 and led Schlarman to two state championships. Greg has coached college football for 23 years and is now the head football coach at Millersville University in Pennsylvania.

The schedule for the evening is as follows: the junior varsity boys’ basketball game starts at 6 p.m., with the induction of Hendricks and the 1980 and 1981 state football championship teams into the Athletic Wall of Fame at 6:45 pm.

The induction of Broderick, Kittell and honorary inductee Colby will occur during halftime of the varsity game.
