Meth lab bust nets 11 arrests

DANVILLE — A methamphetamine lab bust netted more than 10 arrests in one afternoon for the Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group.

VMEG Sgt. Lisa Crowder confirmed Wednesday the county’s drug enforcement agency took 11 people in custody during an afternoon bust of a meth lab in the 400 block of West Woodbury Street.

Crowder said VMEG agents were conducting surveillance in the area when they observed a drug exchange occur. The agents approached the individuals — who were in front of a residence — and took them into custody.

Agents then received consent from the individuals to search the nearby residence. Inside, they found the lab as well as 80 grams of liquid meth worth about $800, according to Illinois State Police estimates.

Eight more people who were inside the home also were taken into custody. All but one — Jeremy Gorz, 23, of Westville — was released Tuesday pending the filing of formal charges. Statements were taken from those individuals who were released.

Gorz was booked at the Public Safety Building jail just before 4 p.m. Tuesday on charges of aggravated meth manufacturing, possession of meth materials and possession/delivery of meth.

Crowder said the house was not a large meth lab, but the equipment inside indicated it might have been in use for a while.

The Illinois State Police Meth Response Team was called in to handle clean up of the toxic cooking process.
