DANVILLE — Police investigators continue to look into the death of a 19-year-old man Sunday discovered by a passerby on the city's east side.

The person has only been identified by city police as a 19-year-old resident of Danville, according to a release issued late Sunday night by Danville Department of Public Safety Director Larry Thomason.

According to Thomason, a man was walking around 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of Lape Street and Fairweight Avenue when he heard a person groaning and discovered the 19-year-old man lying on the street.

The victim was taken to Provena United Samaritans Medical Center were he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The victim may have been shot, according to Thomason, who indicated police and Medix personnel were uncertain as to the cause of the injury. Police were not releasing any further information as of Sunday night.
