Police investigate armed robberies

DANVILLE — Police are searching for suspects in two separate armed robbery incidents during the weekend.

In the first incident, Papa John’s Pizza, 302 W. Fairchild St., reported just after 7:45 p.m. Saturday that a delivery driver was robbed near the corner of Oak and Center streets.

Danville Police Sgt. Joshua Campbell said the driver told police he had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection when he was approached by a suspect holding a handgun.

The man demanded money from the driver, who then turned over money to the suspect. The suspect fled north on foot from the scene.

Campbell said the suspect is described as a black male standing 5 feet 9 inches tall in his 20s. The man was wearing all black at the time.

In the second incident, two teenagers attempted to rob a couple of men around 12:50 a.m. Sunday outside Jim and Joe’s, 821 E. Fairchild St.

The men reported to police the juveniles walked up — one holding a handgun — and demanded money. The men refused, prompting one of the juveniles to fire a couple of shots from the gun.

The men then chased the juveniles from the scene. Campbell said one of the juveniles is in police custody.
