OAKWOOD — With the adjournment of the March board of trustees meeting, Tom Cook will end his job as mayor of Oakwood.
Cook presented his written letter of resignation to the village board at Monday night’s meeting.
Cook cited an increased workload at his job that would not allow him the time that is necessary to devote to village business.
“I feel the cooperation with the school district in the closing of Olmstead Street to allow for the expansion of Oakwood Grade School was my biggest success,” Cook said.
Cook, who has served as mayor since 2001, said the need for upgrading the village water system is the greatest challenge for the village board.
“The village is going to have to seriously consider some type of low-interest loan to make some improvements to the water system if it is unable to secure some type of grant from either the state or federal government,” Cook added.
As for the future of the village, Cook said he thinks any type of business growth in the village will come from the area surrounding the I-74 interchange in Oakwood.
Cook said he wanted to give the village board ample time to choose a replacement as the reason for giving them such advance notice of his resignation.
Cook first told trustees at their January meeting of his intention to resign.
According to Cook, the trustees will decide which of them will fill out the remainder of his term which will expire in 2013.
