Board to hear about high school reorganization

DANVILLE — Danville District 118’s school board is not expected to make any decisions on staffing or negotiations at Wednesday’s regular meeting.

Instead the board will likely:

-- Hear proposals for the next two phases of the new “houses” education system at Danville High School.

Assistant Principal Phil Cox, director of the new ACES House (Academy of Creative Experiences), will present details of the Artful Learning approach.

Assistant Principal Rowdy Fatheree, director of GLOBAL House (Global and Local Outlooks through Business and Action Learning), will present details of the Global Careers and Professions Program.

-- Decide whether to enroll in an American Express credit card program allowing the district to receive cash-back incentives.

The district could receive one-half percent cash back directly, or a full 1 percent if donated to the Danville Public Schools Foundation.

Using last year’s eligible purchases, the district’s foundation could have received $13,000 cash back last year for only the cost of a $75 enrollment fee.

-- Take action on a recommendation for an addendum to the district-wide wellness policy. The addendum would help Northeast Elementary Magnet School meet criteria to reach the next level of the Alliance for a Healthier Nation’s certification program, of which Northeast has already been named a national leader in health-and-wellness-centered education.

-- Approve a call for bids for next year’s custodial and cleaning supplies.

-- Accept bids for two district-owned pickup trucks.
