Teen wounded by gunshot

DANVILLE — A teenager walking on Lake Street near Main Street suffered a gunshot wound when he was confronted by two young men Thursday night.

The 15-year-old eastside resident was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center and released, according to Doug Miller, deputy director of the Danville Police Department.

Miller said the teen was walking toward Main Street about 6:25 p.m. when two youths approached him and demanded he turn over anything he had. One youth pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the teen and demanded money.

During the confrontation, the gun discharged and hit the teen in the leg.

The youths then fled eastbound without getting anything from the victim.

The victim described them as black, 15-16 years old, 5 foot 6 or 7 inches, and about 140 pounds; one was dressed all in black and the other was wearing a red jersey.
