Provena adopts color-coded dress code

DANVILLE — Visitors and patients at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville and Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana now will be able to easily identify their caretakers — thanks to a new “Colors by Discipline” dress code the hospitals have adopted.

The idea is to help people easily identify hospital staff. Employees have been assigned colors based on their roles and health-care professions.

Rhonda Grubb, regional director of human resources at Provena Covenant and Provena United Samaritans, said the change is positive for many reasons. She added, “If you’re in the hospital, or just visiting it’s comforting to know who is who. We have hundreds of employees, and if you need help, or have a question this makes it that much easier to identify the person you’re talking to, or need to talk to.”

In addition to adopting this new dress code, employees were invited to donate their old scrubs and uniforms to charity. Both hospitals held a drive that brought in hundreds of items, and both hospitals plan to donate them to the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, the Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach, Friends of the Children of Haiti and Promise Healthcare.

The dress code colors are:

— RN/LPN: navy

— CNA: cranberry wine

— Imaging/Diagnostic: evergreen

— Respiratory Care: royal blue

— Environmental Services: hunter green

— Transport Services: khaki

— Exercise Physiologists: black

— Maintenance/Plant Operations: grey/navy

— Food Services: olive

— Warehouse: red.
