DANVILLE —
A Danville alderman is out of jail following an arrest during the weekend on a traffic citation warrant.
According to Public Safety Director Larry Thomason, a police officer went to meet Ward 1 Alderman Kevin Davis at Davis’ residence at 613 Jewell St. regarding an unrelated matter Saturday morning.
The officer arrested Davis about 10:30 a.m. Saturday after completing a routine computer check of Davis’ name and finding an active warrant for failure to appear for a hearing on a suspended driver’s license in Coles County.
The citation for driving with a suspended license was issued in 2012 in Coles County, Thomason added.
The warrant was issued on Jan. 26.
Davis bonded out of jail, paying $225 in fees, on Monday, Thomason said.
Ironically, that is how much Davis makes a month as alderman.
Aldermen receive a stipend of $225 a month no matter how many meetings they attend.
Davis hasn’t attended city council or committee meetings since August 2012 due to his job.
He works at a residence hall for the University of Illinois food service. City council meeting times fall during his work hours.
Unless he resigns, Davis’ term on the council expires in 2015.

Racing in the Blood
Ron Colson attended his first Indianapolis 500 when he was 7 years old. That was 66 years ago. He’s missed only one of the Memorial Day weekend classics since then, and that was in 1950 when he had the mumps. He grudgingly handed his prized ticket over to his uncle that year. Luckily for the 10-year-old, it was one of the few early years when the race was televised, and the family friends who owned Crane’s TV Shop in Hillsboro, Ind., invited him to come watch it with them.
