Fog a factor in trio of accidents

DANVILLE — Three accidents occurred in Vermilion County Wednesday as a result of the dense fog that blanketed the region.

Vermilion County Sheriff Department deputies responded to the first crash at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Henning Road and County Road 2900N. Back-to-back accidents then took place just before 8 a.m. along Illinois Route 1 near the intersection of County Road 2900N.

In the Route 1 crashes, Rachel Cloth, 25, of rural Rossville, was headed southbound when she collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by county probation director Thomas Gregory, 39, of Rossville. Both drivers were uninjured and Cloth was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Sheriff’s Department Capt. Dennis Wood said then, while the first accident was being sorted out, a pickup truck driven by Hunter Peterson, 19, of Rossville, approached the scene. The truck swerved off the road and overturned in a ditch.

Peterson and a passenger, 15-year-old Tucker Peterson, were taken to Provena United Samaritans Medical Center where they were treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Hunter Peterson was issued a citation for registration.

In the other accident, Wood said Jessica Edenburn, 22, of rural Georgetown, was southbound approaching the County Road 2900 intersection when she collided with the rear of a semi trailer driven by Terry Cash, 58, of Harristown.

No citations have been issued, Wood said. Edenburn was taken to Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital for treatment.
