Local ticket worth $1 million

FAIRMOUNT — The village of Fairmount, with a population of 641, is abuzz about who is a Powerball lottery winner.

Someone bought a ticket worth $1 million at the Casey’s General Store in town, 201 N. Main St. The ticket matched all five white numbers except the Power ball.

Casey’s Manager Janet Jackson said she received her first phone call at 4 a.m. about the local winning lottery ticket.

“It wasn’t me,” Jackson said laughing.

“I have no idea,” she said about who the winner could be. No one had stepped forward yet.

She said the convenience store has been “crazy” with people buying tickets, and now with residents wondering who won.

Jackson said it could be a few days before they find out. She hopes it is someone local who won.

The store sees few non-residents pass through, but it has seen some out-of-town visitors for the holidays.

She said the store hasn’t seen any big Lottery winner before.

“It’s very exciting,” Jackson said. “It will make a very nice Christmas present.”

The $1 million prize was second place in the Powerball Lottery. Another $1 million ticket was sold at Bart’s Supermarket in Flanagan in Livingston County. The stores that sold the tickets reportedly will receive $10,000.

Jackson said she didn’t know the store’s winning amount, but the money will go to the corporate office. She said the money could trickle down to the store.
