City man shot in leg

DANVILLE — One man was taken to the hospital after several shots were fired during the afternoon in the Fair Oaks Housing Complex.

Danville police responded to the scene around 2:20 p.m. Monday after a man called 911 from the 900 block of Campbell Lane reporting that he had been shot.

Danville Police Deputy Director Doug Miller said the victim — a 28-year-old man with a Danville address — told police he was walking along the street with a friend at the time of the incident.

The man said he had noticed a group of people standing in a parking lot near Wakley Drive and Lewis Lane when someone started firing shots. He was struck in the leg as he ran away.

Miller said the leg injury was not life-threatening and the man was taken to the hospital for treatment. A woman walking farther down the street told police she also suffered a graze wound from one of the bullets fired. She did not require hospitalization.

No other injuries were reported.

Miller said it did appear several shots were fired at the scene. No one had been taken into custody as of late Monday afternoon and an investigation into the incident was continuing.

Police also are investigating several calls from the weekend, including:

--Several shots fired around 2:15 a.m. Sunday at a man in the 200 block of Lahn Street.

According to Miller, the man received a call to go out in front of his home. He approached subjects sitting in a black car when the shots were fired, shattering the rear windshield of a vehicle in the driveway.

The man fled from the car and was uninjured.

--An attempted robbery of a Great Wall Restaurant delivery man around 6:20 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Washington Street.

Miller said the 41-year-old restaurant employee was delivering an order to a home when he was approached by a black man wielding a long stick or limb.

The suspect raised the stick and began to approach the delivery man, who dropped the food and assumed a fighting stance. The suspect then turned and fled the scene.

The man was described as in his 30s with a medium build wearing a long-sleeved black shirt.
