DANVILLE — The Danville Jaycees are collecting items to send oversees to U.S. military personnel.
The local organization will accept items through Sept. 8. The items will be taken to the Jaycees’ Service Center in Springfield, where they will be sent to troops oversees closer to Christmas, according to a press release.
There are two drop off locations — 980 WITY Radio, 399 Spetler Ave, Tilton, and at Downtown Danville Inc. , 149 N. Vermilion St. — and members will set up a booth 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Walmart.
Below are a list of items accpted:
Food/drink items — Christmas candy; hard candy; chewing gum; fruit roll-ups; gummy bears; Swedish fish; Twizzlers; beef Slim Jims; beef jerky; Ramen soup; Cup of Soup; trail mix; granola bars; cereal bars; nuts; canned fruit; canned tuna; Chef Boyardee; hot drink mixes; individual flavor tea; small sizes of things to eat; and lemonade or fruit punch packs.
Fun/game Items: Beanie Babies; sudoku books; crossword books; word find books; small stuffed animals; CDs, DVDs; batteries; dominoes; dice; decks of cards; UNO decks; stationery; pens; toys appropriate for age 3 and younger (no small parts to break/swallow); magazines (current within the last year); international phone cards; Christmas cards with personal greetings; disposable cameras; clothing/toiletries; crew socks; foot powder; hand warmers; foot warmers; baby wipes; lip balm; body lotion; hand wipes; razors; and manicure sets.
All donated items should be small, individually packed items, if possible, and be able to withstand the shipping process.
The following items will not be accepted: soft foods; chocolate or items that melt easily; glass containers; home-made foods; and hard-back books
Cash donations also will be accepted. The Danville Jaycees will do the shopping for donors who prefer.
