WESTVILLE —
A single-story home was destroyed in a Saturday morning fire.
Westville Area Fire Protection District Chief Gary Wright said the fire call came in at 9:33 a.m. A fire had started in the home of Penny Jones on 1200 North Road, east of Westville.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, fire was coming through the roof on the northeast corner, the back side of the house, Wright said.
There were children home at the time of the fire, but everyone got out safely, Wright said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Wright said there is nothing suspicious about the fire. It appears to be accidental.
The house is a total loss, he said.
Firefighters were on the scene for about two and half hours.
Westville Area Fire Protection District received help hauling water from fire departments in Georgetown, Catlin, Tilton and the Lynch Area Fire Protection District.

Racing in the Blood
Ron Colson attended his first Indianapolis 500 when he was 7 years old. That was 66 years ago. He’s missed only one of the Memorial Day weekend classics since then, and that was in 1950 when he had the mumps. He grudgingly handed his prized ticket over to his uncle that year. Luckily for the 10-year-old, it was one of the few early years when the race was televised, and the family friends who owned Crane’s TV Shop in Hillsboro, Ind., invited him to come watch it with them.
