The number of persons picking up election packets to run for mayor now totals eight.
The latest to pick up packets were Charles Long and David Quick.
They also both picked up packets to possibly run for aldermen in their respective wards of 5 and 1.
Others who have picked up petitions to run for mayor are: Mayor Scott Eisenhauer; Ward 2 Alderman Rick Strebing; Jeremy Radloff; Paul Sermersheim; Donald Nord; and retiring state Rep. Bill Black.
Others picking up packets recently to run for city office next year: Ward 7 Alderman Ron Candido for Ward 7; Dick Wallace for city treasurer and Ward 7 alderman; and Jose Velazquez for Ward 5 alderman.
At least three aldermen are not seeking re-election on the Danville City Council — Dale Brandenburg in Ward 3, Terry Baldwin in Ward 4 and Jerry Askren in Ward 5.
Other possible aldermen candidates who have picked up petitions: Kevin Davis for Ward 1; incumbent Rick Strebing for Ward 2; Scott R. Kinney for Ward 3; Melinda Nalett for Ward 4; Tom Stone and Hannah Landis for Ward 5; incumbent Jon Cooper, Greg Shepherd, Clyde Darnell and Robert E. Andrews for Ward 6; and Ryan Lane and Black for Ward 7.
Also, incumbent City Treasurer Lisa Monson has picked up a petition to seek re-election.
Possible offices on the Feb. 22 consolidated primary: mayor, city treasurer and one aldermanic seat for each of the seven wards.
Election Commission director Barbara Dreher said the primary election is conducted if there are five or more people running for a seat.
State law changed the number from three or more people running for a seat to help smaller jurisdictions save money, Dreher said.
Interested residents can pick up petition packets from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Danville Election Commission office in the Vermilion County Courthouse Annex, 6 N. Vermilion St. Questions can be directed to 554-1930.
Candidates file petitions for the offices Nov. 15-22.
The last day to file as a write-in candidate for the primary is Dec. 23.
