COVINGTON, Ind. —
Hiring relatives will be forbidden in Indiana government.
The Fountain County Council signed the agreement Monday. The state law went into effect July 1, and councilmen were required to sign it by Dec. 31.
Current employees are “grandfathered in,” but no future employees can be relatives, and councilmen cannot approve contracts where they have family connections.
In other business, councilmen:
- Learned work on the new ambulance building is progressing.
“Everything is going real well,” said council president Richard Klage.
“It is pretty exciting,” said Virginia Schrerer, ambulance director.
- Approved an additional appropriation request for $20,000 in the 2012 Solid Waste Management budget for equipment, repairs, labor and fuel.
- Appointed Paula Hammand to a four-year term on the Kingman-Millcreek Public Library Board.
