A new used car sales lot is coming to the city’s north side.
Tyler Fox of Westville will open Fox Auto World at the former site of the K&W/A&W Root Beer Stand at 2828 N. Vermilion St. Fox hopes to open the site by mid-January.
Fox said he’s been involved in car sales on and off for years. Having a seasonal job of teaching golf professionals had him selling cars on the side, he said. He also worked at Royal Buick Pontiac GMC and Blue Jay Motors.
Fox said he initially looked to open a golf retail business, but looking at the numbers deterred him. Selling cars was his next choice.
Fox is leasing the property from the Irvin Story family. The building, having set vacant for many years, wasn’t in the best of shape.
“In another year or two, it would have come down,” Fox said about its deteriorated condition. The building is being converted into office space for the car lot.
Fox said the business will start with about 50 vehicles. The property can hold about 75-80 vehicles, he added.
He hopes to have the building renovations completed by Jan. 1 and open the business a couple weeks later. There will be two sales staff, the general manager and book keeper.
Fox said he’s “absolutely” excited about opening his own business.
“It’s been a huge project. You learn to do it all yourself,” he said.
“It’s been a great experience. I’ve enjoyed the process — a lengthy process,” Fox added.
Fox said he’s trying to bring affordable cars to the city and will offer financing to anyone. He’s also working on landscaping the site and will shut down one access point from the site onto North Vermilion Street, based on city and state highway requirements.
Danville Planning and Zoning Manager Chris Milliken said the city is pleased to see North Vermilion Street busy with activity, from new store fronts to new businesses coming.
