HOOPESTON —
The Hoopeston Area School District will serve as host for a Family Resource Night and Fair from 5:30-8 p.m. March 7.
Amy Linares, community liaison for Hoopeston Area High School, said the event will feature a schedule of 20-minute breakout sessions and a community resource fair, free chili and hot dogs, and free raffle. It’s open to everyone.
Child care and activities will be available for younger children attending; however, students must be accompanied by an adult. Bus service also will be available to students and families in Rankin, East Lynn, Rossville and Wellington.
Reservation deadline for the event is Friday. To make a reservation, students’ families can return a form to school or e-mail: pie@hoopeston.k12.il.us.
“The vision of Hoopeston Area Schools is to partner with families and community to prepare individuals to be lifelong learners and responsible citizens of good character,” Linares said.
The school began preparing students six years ago from kindergarten through high school with the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, a statewide system to help schools create a positive learning environment for students through behavior expectations and rewards.
Students from kindergarten through eighth grade expectations are: be safe, be respectful and be responsible. Students in the ninth through 12th grades expectations levels are: be respectful, be responsible and show integrity. These behaviors are rewarded both in school and through public businesses that participate with the PBIS program.
The more students are exposed to and held accountable for the PBIS expectations, the more success they will have in displaying the positive behaviors.
