WESTVILLE —
The Westville Public Library will present Dan Haughey in “The Imagination of Poe” at 11 a.m. April 6.
In this one-person show, Haughey becomes a modern literary critic for a prominent newspaper. He both performs and critiques Poe’s work in the guise of a skeptical critic, according to a library press release. Some of Poe’s greatest poems, short stories, and satires will be presented.
The event is being produced in part by the Illinois Humanities Council’s Road Scholars Speakers Bureau, a program that provides organizations statewide with affordable, entertaining, and thought-provoking humanities events for their communities. A roster of speakers, hailing from 16 different towns and cities across Illinois, present topics in history, culture, literature, music, politics, law, science and many more.
Road Scholar Dan Haughey has performed theater roles on college and professional stages. He was a college professor for 26 years and retired from Black Hawk College as Professor Emeritus.
“The Imagination of Poe” will take place in the community room of the library. The event is free and open to all audiences, but registration is required as seating is limited. For information, visit http://www.westvillepubliclibrary district.org or contact the Westville Public Library at 267-3170.
The Illinois Humanities Council is an independent, nonprofit state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, dedicated to fostering a culture in which the humanities are a vital part of the lives of individuals and communities.
The IHC creates programs and funds organizations that promote greater understanding of, appreciation for, and involvement in the humanities by all Illinoisans, regardless of their economic resources, cultural background, or geographic location.
