Group plans Parent Café

DANVILLE — The Community Foster Care and Adoption Coalition of Vermilion County will host a series of three Parent Cafés starting at 6-8 p.m. Monday at The Salvation Army, 855 E. Fairchild St. Enter on Bowman Ave.

Foster parents, adoptive parents, Court Appointed Special Advocates volunteers and advocates for children and families are invited to attend. Two more Parent Cafés are planned for Feb. 1 and March 11.

The Be Strong Families team developed the Parent Café process, which uses conversations to strengthen the six “protective factors.” Attendees can come to the cafés to de-stress, share stories, strategies, hopes, dreams, fears, experiences and afterward leave with renewed strength and a plan.

Community Foster Care and Adoption Coalition of Vermilion County is a collaboration of public and private agencies and organizations that provide foster care, adoptive or other services to children and families in Vermilion County.

Ron Colson attended his first Indianapolis 500 when he was 7 years old. That was 66 years ago. He’s missed only one of the Memorial Day weekend classics since then, and that was in 1950 when he had the mumps. He grudgingly handed his prized ticket over to his uncle that year. Luckily for the 10-year-old, it was one of the few early years when the race was televised, and the family friends who owned Crane’s TV Shop in Hillsboro, Ind., invited him to come watch it with them.
