Dealership grows again

DANVILLE — Gary Knight has turned an empty lot and vacant building into a new business that is already bustling on the north end of town.

World Class Clean Detail and Lube Center at 3704 N. Vermilion St. opens today. Knight, owner of Carmack Car Capital, said renovations on the site began six weeks ago and an upscale detailing and oil change shop is the result.

Knight said the sprouts for the business began more than a year ago, when “Chrysler kicked us to the curb.”

The major automaker filed bankruptcy and cut the dealership off its list.

In doing so, not only was the dealership to liquidate its Chrysler vehicles, but service technicians had been Chrysler trained as well.

To combat the loss, Knight formed a partnership with NAPA Auto Parts. Technicians became NAPA trained, and the former Chrysler repair shop and parking lot was revamped.

This NAPA Service Center has been so successful that it is pushing out the detailing side of the Carmack business.

“We have grown and grown and grown,” Knight said. “We have outgrown our service facility and two more used car lots.”

In order to compensate for the extra business the service center has created, the decision was made to move the entire detailing staff away from the main lot at 3724 N. Vermilion St. The move also allowed for the detailing, lube and oil change services to be provided to the public separately at the new location.

“There’s no other shop in this part of town like this,” service director, Rob Lovell said. “It’s a newer facility.”

The shop has a lube bay, a wet bay and three dry bays for servicing vehicles. Soil extractors and an upgraded pressure washing system assist the 12 to 15 employees during the two shifts it’s open. All different levels of cleaning are available, including oil changes or just a wash, wax and vacuum.

They also service fleet accounts and will pick-up and deliver for free for those businesses.

Call 709-WASH (9274) for appointments, which are recommended for detailing services that can be a four- to six-hour process. Reservations are recommended, but are not needed for other services. The shop is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
