Hypertufa is the term used for a type of artificial stone. It is a good medium for making long-lasting garden troughs, fake rocks and boulders, stepping stones, garden spheres and all sorts of decorative garden accents. It is a mud-pie recipe used to create objects that look like cement, but are actually lightweight.
University of Illinois Vermilion County Master Gardeners MaryJo McDonald and Pat Sollars have agreed to conduct a second session of this class at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the U of I Extension, Vermilion County Unit, 12190 U.S. Route 150. Participants in a workshop will create their own hypertufa creations during a make-and-take workshop.
The cost $10, and the fee must be paid in advance, since seating is limited to 25 people. Participants need to bring a 5-gallon bucket, rubber gloves, a towel for cleanup and a trowel to mix the ingredients.
