Bismarck festivities to begin Friday

Festival filled with softball, food, fireworks

BY CHRIS HIGHTOWER

BISMARCK — This weekend, the Men’s Club of Bismarck will be celebrating the Fourth of July at Lions Club Park, and all are welcome to partake in the festivities.

“We will have entertainment for all,” Men’s Club President Larry Hill said.

“It’s a great time, and thanks to our supporters, we have one of the best fireworks displays in the area.”

The Men’s Club has been putting on its fireworks display for the last six years, and for the past two years its members have built upon that to create a weekend-long event.

This year, the festivities start on Friday with the start of the Twilight & Minor girls softball tournament.

On Saturday, there will be bounce house games for children beginning at noon and concluding at 8 p.m., as well as the conclu-sion of the tournament.

During the day, the Bismarck-Henning High School cheerleaders will sell the ice cream novelty Dip-N-Dots, and the high school band will sell cotton candy.

At 5 p.m., the Men’s Club will present the 2007 Sports Appreciation Award and then begin serving meals, as well as pork bar-becue sandwiches and hot dogs. Serving will conclude at 8 p.m.

For the teens, there will be a dance from 7-10 p.m.

“We will have a live DJ. We just want the kids to have a good time,” Men’s Club Vice President Bryan Nesbitt said.

As the evening winds down, the Men’s Club will present the main event — the fireworks display.

There will be free admission and parking for the entire event.
