Tilton unhappy with bridge progress

TILTON — On Thursday night, Tilton Mayor David Phillips was adamant about holding the contractor on the 14th Street overpass project to the terms of the construction contract.

“If the project is not completed by November 15, each day after the contractor will incur a $1,700 a day non-completion penalty,” stated Phillips. “We plan to hold them to the contract.”

“In my opinion, the contractor does not have enough workers on the job,” Phillips added.

Phillips went on to say he doesn’t understand why there is no overtime work or Saturday work being done on the project. He said they have missed one benchmark, which was having Tilton Road open by July 4.

Phillips’ remarks came after a question from an audience member on the seemingly slow pace of work on the project.

In other action, the board:

-- Approved payment to Danville Township of $600 for mosquito spraying.

-- Approved a payment to Cross Construction of $5,200 for work on the Central Park sewer project.

-- Learned that paperwork had been received from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers concerning flood plain designation for certain areas in the village. This information was passed on to the village engineer for study.

-- Learned that bids will soon be advertised for the Coachlight Mobile Home Park sanitary sewer improvements.

Bids are scheduled to be advertised on July 21 with bid opening on Aug. 12. The tentative schedule calls for the bids to be awarded on Aug. 21 after review by the village board.

WHAT’S NEXT

The Tilton Village Board will meet at 6 p.m. Aug. 21 at the village hall.
