City to consider PSB rent increase

Danville’s share of the Danville Public Building Commission’s budget is expected to increase by 2.79 percent this year.

Members of the city’s Public Services Committee will consider accepting the commission’s proposed 2008-09 fiscal year budget at a meeting set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert E. Jones Municipal Building, 17 W. Main St.

The total budget, shared by the county and city to run a police communication center used by both, will likely increase by just over 2 percent for a total projected cost of almost $5.5 million.

The city’s total cost in the arrangement would be around $1.05 million, coming in the form of rent payments for the facilities.

Vermilion County’s share of the rent budget is more substantial, proposed at $2.34 million, an expected increase of 3 percent. The county’s cost for assigned personnel is up just a half-percent within a proposed budget of $2.1 million, though the city does not contribute to that fund.

One ordinance also will appear on Tuesday’s Public Services agenda, with committee members considering whether to authorize the purchase of property at 129 Franklin St. and 448 Junction St.

Both undeveloped lots were acquired by the county due to unpaid taxes and neither was sold for the minimum required bid of $600 when the county conducted an auction for them.

City staff identified the lots as being either adjacent to city property or holding the potential for future open-space and city beautification use.

Also on Tuesday, Public Development Director John Heckler is expected to deliver an update on the city’s endeavor to revise its zoning ordinances.
