Dorothy Valerie (Thompson) Reynolds, 80, of Danville, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center.
Dorothy was born Dec. 2, 1927, in Odin, Ill., the daughter of Val and Dovie (Deadmond) Thompson. She married Robert Dean Reynolds on Oct. 5, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1991.
She is survived by three children, Richard Reynolds of Danville, Greg (Rosetta) Reynolds of Ridge Farm and Julie (Dan) Balgeman of Westville; eight grandchildren, Brian, Brandy, Sarah, Robert, Taylor, Corey, Zachery and Cody. She is also survived by four siblings, Wanda (Doutes) Myers, Alene Bachman, Bill (Kitty) Thompson, Alice Carroll, and several nieces and nephews, many of whom thought of her more of a mother and grandmother than an aunt. She also was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert Thompson and a sister, Barbara Malan.
Dorothy worked at Continental Filling, then as a beautician for many years. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, going to garage sales, bowling and playing cards at the Sportsman’s Club. She was a big sports fan and especially loved the St. Louis Cardinals and the Illini. She was known for her home cooking and family dinners. She played a big part in raising Brandy, Taylor, Corey, and Zachary, and loved every minute of it.
A celebration of her life will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at the Veteran’s Chapel on the VA Hospital grounds, 1900 E. Main St. in Danville. Kevin Cox will officiate the memorial. A brief military honors ceremony for Robert Dean Reynolds will be performed following the memorial at the Danville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor’s choice.
