HILLSDALE, Ind. — Erin A. Sykes, 18, and Nicholas A. Guyton, 22, both of Hillsdale, were arrested for theft and fraud charges after a three-week investigation.
The Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department said that between Aug. 21-26, Guyton wrote checks to Sykes on a closed account. Sykes opened a checking account at the Old National Bank in Clinton and withdrew all the funds except $50.
Sykes returned several times over the same week to make deposits and withdraw funds, as well as write checks to other stores in the area, all ffrom the same closed account.
The sheriff’s department said $750 was deposited with bad checks and $450 was taken in cash and written checks before the original checks started returning NSF/Account Closed from the original bank that the checks were written on.
Sykes is being held at the Vermillion County Jail with a bond amount of $10,000.
Guyton is being held at the Vermillion County Jail with no bond, as he also is wanted on a warrant in Gibson County for revocation of probation.
