ATTICA, Ind. — The Attica-Williamsport Rotary will sponsor “Homes Where We Live” fall home tour from 1-5 p.m. EDT Sunday. Proceeds will benefit the Attica Summer Park Program, the Williamsport Summer Park program and the Haitian Water Project.
Six area homes are featured on the tour and will have sweets and savories for those attending.
--Charlie and Shirley Kerkhove’s in Attica will have wine and cheese provided by Robie’s Restaurant.
--Pumpkin bars and hot cider will be served at the home of Larry and Teal Briles.
--Don and Bonnie Opperman’s home will feature savories provided by Attica IGA.
--Just 3 miles south of Attica on the Shawnee Creek the tour takes you to the rustic home of Duncan and Becky Gilmore where the Tacky Apron will serve sweets.
--Just around the bend, the bungalow of Gary and Priscilla Davis awaits. Priscilla will greet everyone with her yummy scones with lemon curd and creamy tea.
--Rounding out the tour is the picturesque setting of Win and Jane Thomas’ home in Warren County. Keeping with the fall theme, the Beef House will have their famous piping hot rolls with apple butter.
Cindy Mason, chairman of the home tour, reports that tickets for the event are available from committee members, Dennis Kovar and Kathy Poston, and other Rotarians. Tickets also will be available at the homes. The club would like to raise $6,000 for the summer park programs and for the Haitian Water Project.
Mason said these projects were selected because the summer park programs are at risk of losing funding.
In Attica, the summer park program, which has provided enrichment activities for youngsters ages 6-12 years for the past 20 years at no cost, has lost its funding. The city council has budgeted some funding, but not at the same level the program has received in the past.
The Williamsport Summer Park Program is also at risk of losing some of its funding.
The Attica-Williamsport Rotary Club, whose motto is Service Above Self, values the important service these two programs provide to our youth.
The club also funds international projects; this year one of the emphases is on water and reducing child mortality. Because so many people in the Attica-Williamsport area have gone to Haiti and are aware of the poverty there. The club decided to help fund a Water Project in Haiti that will bring clean water to their children, thus helping reduce child mortality due to water borne diseases.
“We can’t begin to give enough thanks to our wonderful home owners for opening their homes,” Mason said. “Everyone has been so gracious and accommodating. We are also greatly thankful for the generosity of our local eateries and businesses for truly making this a special event.”
Mason said the Attica and Williamsport area always has been supportive of worthwhile local projects, especially when the projects have responded to the needs of the young.
“Likewise, our Rotary Club has always believed that ‘Service Above Self’ begins at home,” she said. “Within the last two years we have initiated the bridge projects in Ravine Park and provided the reading gazebo for the Williamsport library.
“In following with this year’s Rotary theme “Make Dreams Real” we are inviting everyone to attend the “Homes Where We Live” home tour Sunday.”
