Local production company stays busy

DANVILLE — “My plan was always to move back home and open up a record studio,” said Jordan Cundiff.

Cundiff is the owner of Simply Complicated Productions, a locally run recording studio that has been responsible for many of the concerts in the Danville area since late 2005. Cundiff also is the head of the audio/visual department at The Rock Church and works with The Edge youth.

Simply Complicated Productions was started to help get bands from point A to point B by helping them with things such as booking, recording, management and marketing.

“When I was finishing up school in Washington, D.C., I was keeping an eye on all the local musicians around Danville,” Cundiff said.

Simply Complicated Productions stages concerts about once a month at several different local venues, including Brewstar, the Danville Amateur Athletic Center and, most frequently, The Edge, 3723 N. Vermilion St.

“I’ve always been in the local scene.” Cundiff said. “My first band I ever really recorded was a band called Summer in Stereo. They were from Danville, and I thought they were one of the best I’d heard and later came to know that so many bands from here are amazing.”

Simply Complicated Productions does not just work with local bands. It also has worked with big-name Christian bands such as The Wedding, The Fold, Run Kid Run and Showbread.

“We love seeing all the kids here at The Edge,” said Daniel Castady, lead singer of the Chicago-based band The Fold. “They’re all so energetic.”

The Fold preformed at The Edge on Oct. 18 along with the local bands Blind Image and Seldan, and the Kankakee-based band, Pilgrims.

“We came to The Edge two or three years ago as part of a tour,” Castady said. “We have a great friendship with Jordan and we kept in touch, which allowed us to come back here and play.”

Next on the lineup is The Radiance Effect, an indie rock band from Missouri. They will be at The Edge on Nov. 8 as part of Loh Fih Apparel’s The Flash and the Funk Tour.

“There is no target audience for the shows,” Cundiff said. “If you enjoy the music, then come out and have fun.”

Coming to The Edge in December is Seldan, So Long Forgotten, and Todd Reese. In January, Josh Dies, lead singer of the Christian rock band Showbread, will be at The Edge for an acoustic concert and a reading of his new children’s book.

“The shows are great,” said Cundiff, “we have free Royal Donut doughnuts and the kids get to hang out afterwards and meet the bands.”

Simply Complicated Productions always is looking for new bands to add to its lineup.

“I don’t have a certain number of bands that I use,” Cundiff said. “I pick who’s best for each show. I’ll really let just about anybody play.”
