Catlin discusses water problems

CATLIN — The village council discussed Tuesday night a way to prevent what Mayor Clayton Woodard called a “deluge of water in the village,” like what they experienced in June.

Ellen Hedrick of Sodemann and Associates of Champaign proposed a drainage study on the south side of the village for $8,500. The council discussed the possibility of contacting the various drainage districts to find a solution to the problem.

Ultimately, the matter was tabled in favor of more research. The south end of the village at Morris Street is also undergoing work due to a storm water situation. A tile and catch basin are in the works, but the paperwork detailing the cost is not yet back.

In other business, commissioners:

-- Adopted the 2008 tax levy of $138,789, which is a 4.9 percent increase.

-- Discussed the financial status of the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund and the potential for a change in salary contributions. The matter will be discussed further in January when more information is available.

-- Reminded residents that the Christmas tree lighting will be at 6 p.m. Nov 30.

-- Learned the Catlin Fire Department will flush fire hydrants around 6 p.m. Dec. 3.

WHAT’S NEXT

The Catlin Village Council will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Catlin Village Hall, 109 S. Sandusky St.
